Infrastructure

We believe in using the right tool for the job and are therefore platform agnostic. We run a mixture of hardware and software platforms and well as local and cloud based solutions.

Hardware

We run a mix of Intel and AMD based systems with both ATI and nVidia Graphics. We have begun to favour AMD based systems, as they offer really good performance to cost ratios.

Software

Our business uses a wide variety of different software to be able to perform our daily tasks and be productive in general

  • Business Productivity: We run Microsoft Office 2010 as well as Open Office and iWork, depending on the task at hand.
  • Graphic Design: depending on the user, Skitch, Photoshop, Inkscape or Gimp. Some things are just faster in open source apps.
  • Remote server and file management: Putty, WinSCP and FileZilla each play a role in managing our remote systems.
  • Text Editors: Notepad++ and TextMate, we like to keep it simple in this department.
  • Antivirus: we trust Avast for scanning our incoming and outgoing data.
  • Browsers: for debugging and testing, we use FireFox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer. For day to day use, we generally stick to FireFox, Safari and Chrome.

Cloud

The cloud is the future, but it needs to be approached, correctly. We use a variety of different cloud based solutions, each offering their own unique value to our business model and process.

  • DropBox for file sync, offsite backups and file sharing.
  • Evernote for drafting documents and for managing project data.
  • BitBucket for hosting and sharing our code repositories and history.
  • BaseCampHQ for collaborative project management.
  • Wunderlist for general to do list and task management.
  • Gmail for everywhere access, easy to search email.

Hosting

We host all of our web applications on a Debian based platform, with a mix of High Availability and Standard Hosting solutions.

We also use scalable virtual hosting solutions, where needed.

Mobile

We have adopted Android as our mobile platform of choice, with it’s seamless integration with Google Services, it is the best mobile companion.
